Tallahassee was one of the cities we drove thru one the way to Dallas. It is Florida's state capital.
This is Mobile, Alabama. Mobile began as the first capital of colonial French Louisiana in 1702. During its first 100 years, Mobile was a colony of France, then Britain, and lastly Spain. Mobile first became a part of the United States of America in 1813, with the annexation of West Florida under President James Madison. In 1861 Alabama joined the Confederate States of America, which surrendered in 1865.
This is a hotel we stayed at in Gulfport, Mississippi on our way to Dallas. On August 29, 2005, Gulfport was hit by the strong eastern side of Hurricane Katrina. Much of the city was flooded or destroyed in one day by the strong, hurricane-force winds which lasted over 16 hours and a storm surge exceeding 28 feet (9 m) in some sections.
Hurricane Katrina damaged over 40 Mississippi libraries, gutting the Gulfport Public Library, first floor, and breaking windows on the second floor, beyond repair, requiring total reconstruction. If you look closely in the photo above at the hotel we stayed at, you can see the high water mark that is almost to the ceiling.
Gulfport is the second largest city in Mississippi.
This was the beach that was located very near our hotel. We got out and took some pictures. It was February so it was kind of chilly.
Baton Rouge, Louisiana was another city we drove through on the way to Dallas, Texas. It is the state capital of Louisiana.
This is the Health Sciences Center at LSU. Louisiana State University is the largest institution of higher education in Louisiana in terms of student enrollment. In 2014, the University enrolled nearly 26,000 undergraduate and over 4,500 graduate students in 14 schools and colleges.
Shreveport, Louisiana is another city that we drove through. Shreveport is the commercial and cultural center of the Ark-La-Tex region, where Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas meet.
We finally arrived in the great state of Texas...
We only had a shower but we were not complaining, the hotel was very nice!
The hotel's breakfast area and lobby.
We stayed at the Residence Inn in Tyler, Texas. It was one of the nicer Residence Inn's that we stayed at. We did not get to swim in the pool because we did not have our swim suits. I thought it would be too cold for that and I did not know we would be staying in a hotel with an indoor pool since all of the hotel's in Florida are outside.
These are photos of downtown Dallas, Texas. We also stayed at a Residence Inn here not the Renaissance Hotel...lol.
This was the bedroom at the Residence Inn in Dallas, Texas.
They had sliding doors from the bedroom to the living room area.
Our son fell asleep under the table in the living room.
We stayed at the Residence Inn in Hattisburg, Mississippi on the way home. This is the kitchen.
This is the bathroom sink vanity. The mirrors from the closet are on the opposite side of the sink. You can see forever in the mirrors.
It was a long Drive to and from Dallas. We stayed in four different hotel's all Marriott's. We Drove along the Florida panhandle. The states we traveled through were Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas.
